Character Profile Templates
For each of my characters, after creating their concept wordboards and moodboards, I decided to create character profiles using a template I had found in the book 'The Ultimate Guide to Video Game Writing an Design' (Dille and Zurr, 2007) during my research.
During my last project, I had found that using a profile template was rather helpful for when I created a unique character and a biography for him, so I thought it would be a good time to use this resource again, but this time use the one from the mentioned book as it includes/lists much more details that characters can include (as last project I used a different template, that lacked in detail compared to the one I used this project).
The character profile templates I have currently created are somewhat likely to have some changes made to them as there are certain elements/areas of the characters that could have more solid/effective concepts (most likely smaller changes to the more major characters, and then larger changes to minor characters, if needed).
The profiles templates for my character are shown below.
Creation Process
When creating these character profile templates, I looked back at the character concepts I had previously created as a basis for the profile templates. This was a good starting point for me, but I found a lot of areas for the characters that I hadn't already thought of (these areas being most of what the profile template listed). This required me to develop my character more than I already had.
When developing my characters, I wanted them to have some sort of difference to the other characters, even for the more minor characters, as if I had multiple characters who are all the same, the story and characters themselves would be boring and ineffective.
Becasue of this I decided to research into the different roles that were commonly found on a pirate ship, and then mixing in a crew role with a character to make them more unique. As well as this, I wanted to try and give them a different personalities (although some aren't too different), to further create a range in my characters.
The main experimentation that I carried out for my characters was their general concepts and their names. After carrying out my research into character naming processes I decided to name my characters using existing names with meanings, which I would then use to establish a link with my characters. I decided to do this as I didn't want to spend the time creating a completely new name, which just doesn't sound right (as naming characters is a weakness of mine, and my way around this was using existing names with meanings).
Thanks to this I was able to find a number of names and list how they could link to my characters in different ways.
My research into these processes is shown in the research section of my blog.
