Sidekick Character Backstory
This character is an NPC character but will be traveling with the protagonist throughout the story (after her introduction). As this character is more of a major character than some of my other characters, I wanted to make the backstory include more. However as of yet, it is the shortest character backstory, but I don't think this is too much of a problem, as this character doesn't have as much of a backstory as my other characters, other than she has been alone on an island (Sandvine Island).
Creation Process:
When starting my character backstories I decided that for each of them, before writing, I would plan out a list of topics/areas that the backstory could include when I would go on to write them. To create these list of possible inclusions, I went back to the character profiles that I had previously created, as I had listed a number of different areas that I could write about for my different characters.
The list for the sidekick backstory is shown below:
Concepts/events for the backstory to include:
-
How she got to the 2nd island/reasoning for being on the island?
-
Surviving on the island alone (from mechanical enemies)
-
The loneliness of the island?
The concepts above were included in the backstory, however, for most of the areas, I plan to delve into them deeper when creating the backstories and side stories for the characters.
Additionally, I was worried that this backstory might be too short to count as a character backstory, but after carrying out some research into some of the character biographies/stories for the characters of 'League of Legends' I was aware that there are many character backstories that effectively make use of being short (in the number of words).
Although these do relate the different characters have varying backstories and lore, which therefore means that the stories of the different characters have different areas to talk about and include.
The Backstory is shown below:
Octavia is a young and timid octopus who roams the jungle and Desert of Sandvine Island day by day in search of safety. She isn’t like your everyday octopus though, as she possesses intelligence similar to that of a human. Although being an octopus, Octavia is capable of traveling on both land and sea but prefers the safety of islands as opposed to the dangers of the seas. The island that Octavia has settled on, however, isn’t completely safe, as there have been an increasing number of mechanical fiends sighted on the island over the one year she’s inhabited the island, but is still much safer than the many dangers of the sea which range from the mechanical fiends, vicious sea creatures and the pirates that sail the seas.
She has only been on the island for a year, but for her that year has been her whole life. Her first memories are of waking up on Sandvine Island all alone, without any sight of other beings. At that time though, the island was much safer, making it a suitable location for her to grow through her younger days, but as she progressed through the first year of her life, the mechanical crabs and turtles began to wash ashore on the island, searching for life to destroy.
It was around this time that Octavia learned of some of the dangers of the world and so sought safety from the dangers of the fiends. But as the island, for as long as she has lived on there, has no other inhabitants, meaning there was no one to fight off the friends who over time began to appear ever so more frequently on the island, requiring her to try and find safe locations on the island, where she will not be found, or experience danger.
There have been few times where she has encountered the mechanical fiends face to face and experienced the dangers of the roaming groups of crabs. All of these encounters thankfully led to the same outcome of Octavia fleeing to safety, and developing a skill for fleeing that she’s used quite commonly.
Although she knows the island is uninhabited, she still journeys to the shores of the island, hoping for someone else to appear, hoping for a friend to wash away the loneliness of the island. But who knows, maybe soon her hope will soon become a reality.
