Group Tutorial Job Research
This section of my blog will show the research carried out during the group tutorial sessions into various different jobs / apprenticeships that I could aim for next year If I decide to continue with my current decision of not going to university
Currently I don't plan to apply to university, and It has been recommended to me to take a GAP year, and try to get a full time job in the meantime to think about my options. However, I still intend to look into various different jobs (course related / unrelated), as well as apprenticeships (related / unrelated) so I'll have a better understanding of what's available once college ends.
The research I will be carrying out during group tutorial will be shown in the section of my blog below.
Apprenticeships advertised on the Colchester Institute website:
Creative and Digital Media Advanced Apprenticeship Apprenticeship: https://www.colchester.ac.uk/course/creative-and-digital-media-advanced-apprenticeship/
What the apprenticeship will cover / outline?
Entry requirements:
To be accepted for this apprenticeship I will need a relevant level 2 - 3 qualification, or 5 GCSE grades, being A* - C, with one being in English and another being for a creative subject, such as art and design.
What will I learn from undertaking this apprenticeship?
Why would I want to apply for this apprenticeship?
I feel as though this would be a good apprenticeship for me as I have somewhat of in interest in media. Additionally, by carrying out this apprenticeship I'd be able to further develop a lot of skills that I have picked up while studying this current college course, such as graphic and web design. However the content covered / taught is dependent on the apprenticeship itself.Although I feel as though many of the skills that I would pick up from this would be useful in multiple jobs or professions, meaning that even if I didn't get a job from the apprenticeship / didn't want to continue, I'd have more skills of a higher level.
What would I need to do to have a better chance of being accepted for this apprenticeship?
As stated in the entry requirements section, there are various different qualifications that would be needed to e accepted for this apprenticeship. It is stated that 5 A* - C grades would be needed. I have the correct number of GCSE grades to qualify, however the problem is that one of these needs to be for a 'creative subject' which I do not have. However, by carrying out this course I will hopefully obtain a level 3 qualification, which is for a media related course, meaning that If I achieve a passing grade at the end of this year, I should be able to apply for this apprenticeship.
Digital Marketer Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship: https://www.colchester.ac.uk/course/social-media-and-digital-marketing-advanced-apprenticeship/
What the apprenticeship will cover / outline?
Entry requirements:
The requirements are usually set by individual employers, meaning it will vary. However the requirements could range from GCSEs, A levels, to a level 2 apprenticeship (or qualifications that are relevant), some relevant experience. Additionally there may also be a math aptitude test

Why would I want to apply for this apprenticeship?
The main reason I am considering applying for this apprenticeship would be the the range of useful and transferable skills that I would develop. I feel as these skills would benefit me when applying and aiming for a position in almost any industry, meaning it would give me a needed edge over others when applying for jobs.
What would I need to do to have a better chance of being accepted for this apprenticeship?
I will need educational qualifications, however the level of qualifications are not always the same. Because of this, once I hopefully pass this current course I will have GCSE grades, AS level grades, and also a level 3 diploma / A level equivalent grades, meaning I should have the grades to be accepted for this apprenticeship. However the entry requirements also states that I would have to carry out a Functional Maths skills test, and show a passion for digital and social media. Because of this it might be a good idea once again revise Maths skills, as I haven't studied Maths in around two and a half years, and my math skills have definitely dulled. Additionally, to show my interest in digital media, I could apply for the marketing role during the final / extended project during this course, as I feel this would be good evidence to prove that I have interest in this particular role.

Open Days
Colchester Institute Apprenticeship Open Event
https://www.colchester.ac.uk/event/january-open-event-colchester/?instance_id=102
This open day is in January 2019 on Wednesday 16th. Going to this open day will not only allow me to have a better understanding of what courses are available, but I feel I would feel less stressed in general as it would allow me to speak with the tutors directly, and help me come to a decision that I feel is right for me.
