Marketing Role Research Plan - Influences
1. What influential people and products will I research?
One area of my research into marketing will focus on marketing campaigns that interest me personally. Most of the campaigns looked at will most likely be for recent games that I have played or enjoyed, or games that are somewhat old but I still enjoy to this day.
Another section of this research will be into effective marketing campaigns for various different media, whether that's for movies or games. This will involve me looking into the types of marketing and advertisement that has been carried out, and then trying to link that to the effectiveness on the games release, as there are games that are good and should have been successful, but due to poor marketing, or a lack of marketing, they didn't do as well as they should / could have.
But this is what will need to be researched (examples of this, and an analysis of why)
Games that I plan to look at the marketing campaigns:
League of Legends (champion teasers / trailers, skin line trailers, even the tournaments)
Spider-Man PS4 - Posters / Guerrilla marketing?
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Very first basic teaser (and the excitement it produced)?
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?
Movie posters?
2. How will I analyse them?
For this I will try to implement my current knowledge of theory, such as semiotics, to explore as to why and how different marketing campaigns have been successful / not successful when talking about particular campaigns.
3. How will I record my findings?
For marketing such as posters, the research will most likely take place in the form of a mind map, as I feel though this will be the most effective way to analyse a piece of media when talking about it's visuals, since anyone reading can see why I have particular thoughts about certain areas of the advertisement, and can also see what area I'm talking about.
If I begin to look into trailers, I will most likely link the video I will be talking about, and then listing the time of particular events that I'll talk about. I feel as though this will be an effective way to show my research as it will allow the reader to watch the video along with reading my research, which in turn will hopefully provide a better understanding of what I mean.
